Tourism is one of the prime drives of an industrial country. Tourism generates income from provincial levels, regional levels to national level.
Krabi province is rich with breathtaking and unique tourist attractions and natural resources, especially its marine and coastal resources such as Phi Phi island, Lanta island and Hong island. Hence, its popularity should be maintained and its beauty should be enhanced by encouraging new types of tourism such as health and spiritual tourism. Furthermore, there is a high potential that the number of tourist visits will increase, therefore, developing a large variation in types of tourism is the perfect strategy to further attract tourists as it enables a larger variety of activity options to suit all types of tourists. Especially sports tourism, where tourists both are visiting to sightsee and to compete in their desired sports. Moreover, sports tourism will not only attract athletes, but also their friends, family, fans and staffs, which will also be able to explore Krabi and income can be generated from their spendings, this will then help improve the economy and services. Therefore, sports tourism is a great tool in developing the economy of the province and the country. Hence, hosting sports events will certainly attract tourists and athletes to travel, sightsee, and also watch, practice and participate in sports competitions which will generate income throughout the whole year. Krabi had also been named 1 of 6 Sport Cities by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports due to its great potential which matches the criteria, which includes, encourage sports activities, showing great sports developments, hosting international sports events, promoting the sports industry and tourism industry. Hence, hosting international scale sports events at Krabi certainly fulfils the criteria of the Sports City criteria, and hosting these events are also a major part in supporting tourism and generating income for both the province and the country.
Objectives
- To stimulate economic growth of Krabi
- To promote tourism in Lanta and other areas of Krabi
- To raise awareness of ecotourism in both tourists and locals
- To enhance the quality of marine and coastal ecotourism, and promote sports tourism in Krabi
- To successfully host the outdoor sports events and create a good reputation amongst both Thai and international athletes. The event organiser are able to impose fees which will be able to cover the expenses and more with a detailed report of all the extra expenses. In the case of leftover money, the organiser will be giving said money to the local governmental offices as agreed upon the organisers.
